‘The Happy Prince’ featuring music by Vincent Kennedy receives a live broadcast on RTÉ on 18 May 2012

Little John Nee performs The Happy Prince

The Happy Prince is based on Oscar Wilde’s story and is a commission from Donegal County Council Cultural Services. Composer Vincent Kennedy collaborated with writer, actor, storyteller and musician Little John Nee and produced a music theatre work especially written for and performed by the Donegal VEC Music Education Partnership’s performing groups.

The original stage performances took place in An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny and The Abbey Centre, Ballyshannon in April 2012. Performed by Little John Nee, the Donegal Youth Orchestra and Donegal Youth Choir, these performances were directed by Raymond Keane (Barabbas Theatre Company), conducted by Vincent Kennedy with lighting designed by Niall Cranney (An Grianán Theatre).

Now with the support of RTÉjr Radio, The Happy Prince is being brought to a much wider audience through this broadcast that goes out live on the digital radio channel at 2pm on Friday 18 May. The performance will also be videocast live on the RTÉjr Radio website – www.rte.ie/junior.

Listen to an interview with Vincent Kennedy about the work recorded on 15 May 2012.
