The Art of Sound is an exhibition consisting of large panels with striking photos of Irish composers by photographer Eugene Langan, together with large-scale images of each composer’s musical handwriting. The exhibition is accompanied by an audio-guide with music excerpts, narrated by Eamon Lawlor, RTÉ lyric fm.

Following a week at Belfast’s Crescent Arts Centre as part of the Belfast Festival 2012, the exhibition is on display at the Arthouse & Library, Stradbally, Co. Laois from 5 November to 12 December 2012.

The Art of Sound was devised by the Contemporary Music Centre in partnership with the Music Department of University College Cork, and was funded by Cork 2005: European Capital of Culture, with capital funding provided by the Arts Council/ An Chomhairle Ealaíon for the audio-guide system. Since its initial outing on display at the Cork County Museum as part of the Cork 2005: European Capital of Culture, the exhibition has toured to Kilkenny, Liverpool, Waterford, Tallaght, and Sligo.
