A new work by Ailís Ní Ríain will be performed as part of a tour in the north of England during January

The piece is inspired by the work of Dr Who theme music creator Delia Derbyshire and forms part of a programme dedicated to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and electronic music pioneer. Ailís Ní Ríain will be joined by Manchester-based new music artists Caro C, Naomi Kashiwagi. The trio, Delia Darlings, have spent time with Delia Derbyshire’s archives at the University of Manchester and John Rylands Library, and will pay sonic homage to the composer in the form of three new commissions.

The concert, which is supported by Arts Council England, The PRS Foundation for Music and the Quebec Arts Council, will take place in Manchester (12 January), Liverpool (16 January), Sheffield (18 January), and Newcastle (20 January). The concert also includes the screening of a special documentary film, ‘The Delian Mode’, about Delia Derbyshire by Canadian filmmaker Kara Blake.

The concert forms part of Delia Derbyshire Day, a celebration of the composer’s work in Manchester on 12 January.
