Three composers will participate in CMC’s Culture Night event on 24 September

Culture Corner.jpg Installations and works by composers Enda Bates, Ailis Ní Riain and Eoin Smith will be presented in CMC as part of this year’s Culture Night on 24 September 2010.

Enda Bates’
interactive spatial music installation Sound Swarm will take place in CMC’s library and consists of a quadraphonic loudspeaker array controlled by a remote wireless controller from the Nintendo Wii games platform. In the Centre’s courtyard, an interactive piece involving turntables, DJ Mixer and laptop will be presented by Eoin Smith. Ailís Ní Ríain’s 1999 piece Dogs in Waiting for solo double bass will be performed throughout the evening in CMC’s reception by double bass player, Bryan Quigley.

The works were selected by an independent panel following an open call for submissions from composers and musicians for the event.

Culture Night began as an initiative of Temple Bar Cultural Trust to encourage people to experience what is on offer from Dublin’s numerous cultural organisations. Since its beginning in 2006, Culture Night has grown to include over 100 of Dublin city’s arts and cultural organisations as well as cities and towns in Ireland. This year the event is expected to reach over half a million people nationwide with free events and activities taking place in 20 cities, towns, counties and islands across the country. The full programme is available at www.culturenight.ie.
