The final concert in Concorde’s Up Close with Music series takes place on 28 April

The Up Close with Music 2013 series offers listeners a chance to hear newly commissioned pieces from Irish composers alongside international repertoire and to meet with composers and performers during the interval.

The series concludes at the RHA Gallery, Ely Place, Dublin on 28 April from 2.30 – 4.30pm with a programme of works presented across two afternoon concerts. The programme features a new commission for accordion, clarinet and violin from Deirdre McKay. According to the composer. the title of the work buttons, breath, bow ‘intentionally cuts away any extra-musical reference to spotlight the sheer physicality of the instruments and the methods of their sound-making in all its abstract splendour’. Other works on the programme include premieres by young Irish composers Matthew Whiteside and Eoin Mulvanney, as well as a focus on the work of student composer Amy Rooney.

Concorde’s Up Close with Music series is supported by a a Music Project Award from The Arts Council. Admission is free by seating is limited.
