Siobhan Cleary has been awarded an artistic residency in Paris

Siobhan Cleary

It’s “Bonjour Paris” for Sligo based-composer Siobhán Cleary, as she has been awarded an artistic residency at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in the Irish College in Paris for the next three months. This residency offers the composer the chance to spend time in Paris and engage with one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. Through the residencies and its own cultural programme, the Centre Culturel Irlandais showcases Ireland’s cultural talent on an international stage.

Siobhán Cleary has had a very busy year to date. From March to May she facilitated the in common time project, a Peace III initiative led by Co. Donegal VEC music education partnership. In addition to being commissioned to write a short work with peace and reconciliation as its theme, the composer successfully mentored twenty young musicians from Donegal and Derry to write their own new works. Since the completion of this unique project, she has been working on a commission for the National Chamber Choir. This choral work will be based on her recent research and fascination with tongue twisters, and will receive its premiere at the Cork Choral Festival in 2011.
