12185027_10153017545097581_5359412666953739993_oFour Solo Spaces takes place as part of the ViewTemple Bar Arts and Politics Festival (19-22 November).

The project presents four simultaneous concerts for soloist and ‘tape’ performed throughout Temple Bar on 21 November 2015, featuring clarinetists Paul Roe and Pablo Manjón-Cabezas Guzmán, saxophonist Gavin Brennan, and flautist Joe O’Farrell.

With music by composers Ben McHugh, Ann Cleare, Ed Bennett and Gráinne Mulvey, each work will be repeated four times, each in a separate performance venue in Temple Bar. Between performances, the audience will be guided from one venue to the next with an interval of 15 minutes between each performance.

The concerts are curated by Fergal Dowling:

“This presentation invites the listeners to appreciate each of the works in isolation, as if heard within its own ‘mini-concert’, and to recognise the relationship of these works within the larger programme and within the wider repertoire,” explains Dowling. “Each composer makes use of the minimal forces of soloist and ‘tape’ to pursue a genuine curiosity in instrumental colour. But each follows a different route through the playful exploration of the relationship between performer, material, fixed media ‘accompaniment’, and the audience’s expectations. From similar starting points, each exploration invites the listener to follow the composer’s logic to its conclusion in engaging and often astounding results.”

Admission is free, but capacity is strictly limited at each of the  venues, so pre-booking is essential. To book contact CMC on tel: 01 673 1922 or email: lfitzgerald@cmc.ie.
